Justice Endometriose: Providing Support and Advocating for Women’s Health in France

Endometriosis, a chronic and often debilitating condition affecting nearly 1 in 10 menstruating women in France, can significantly impact a woman’s quality of life. The association Justice Endometriose, founded in 2022 and based in Moret-Loing-et-Orvanne, Seine-et-Marne, is dedicated to informing women about their rights and providing support as they navigate the complexities of this disease.

Understanding Endometriosis and Its Impact

Endometriosis is characterized by the growth of tissue similar to the uterine lining outside of the uterus. This can lead to chronic pain, difficulty conceiving, and a range of other symptoms. According to a 2020 EndoVie report, 65% of women with endometriosis experience a negative impact on their professional lives, including difficulty concentrating, frequent absences from work, and exhaustion due to pain. This can result in career instability and financial insecurity.

The Role of Justice Endometriose

Justice Endometriose was created to address the challenges faced by women with endometriosis, particularly the lack of awareness of their rights and the difficulties in accessing appropriate care. The association, supported by ten volunteers across France, has assisted over 300 women in obtaining recognition for long-term condition (ALD) status or disabled worker status since 2022.

“The procedure is long and the risk of refusal is quite high. The disease is not recognized nationally and access to the law remains very unequal depending on the departments and regions,” explains Barbara Mvogoh, founder and president of the association.

Support Services Offered

Beyond administrative support, Justice Endometriose provides a safe and supportive environment for women to connect and share their experiences. The association hosts workshops and discussion groups every first Saturday of the month (from 2 p.m. To 4 p.m.) in Moret-Loing-et-Orvanne. These sessions include adapted yoga classes designed for chronic pain and opportunities for open discussion.

“Getting together not only allows you to exchange advice and tips, but also to come out of the shadows, to perceive understood and legitimate,” says Barbara Mvogoh.

Looking Ahead

Justice Endometriose continues to advocate for improved access to care and greater recognition of endometriosis as a debilitating condition. The association is seeking funding to expand its activities and ensure its long-term sustainability.
