Manoléta Association: Championing Endometriosis Awareness and Support in Vaucluse
The Manoléta association, founded in 2018 by Manon Barbin, is a driving force in advancing the recognition, support, and understanding of endometriosis and adenomyosis in the Vaucluse region of France. The organization provides crucial support to individuals and families affected by these conditions, educates healthcare professionals, and raises public awareness.
Understanding Endometriosis and Adenomyosis
Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects approximately one in ten women. It is characterized by the growth of tissue similar to the lining of the uterus outside of the uterus, causing pain, impacting quality of life, and potentially leading to fertility issues. Adenomyosis, often occurring alongside endometriosis, involves the growth of endometrial tissue into the muscular wall of the uterus.
The Mission of Manoléta
Manoléta’s core mission encompasses three key areas:
- Support and Guidance: Providing a supportive network for those diagnosed with endometriosis or adenomyosis, as well as their families, through listening, guidance, and assistance in navigating the healthcare system.
- Professional Training: Educating healthcare and wellness professionals to improve diagnosis, treatment, and overall care for individuals with endometriosis, aiming to reduce the often lengthy and frustrating “medical wandering” experienced by patients.
- Public Awareness: Raising awareness about endometriosis and adenomyosis through events, outreach programs in hospitals, and public education initiatives.
A Dedicated Team
Manoléta is powered by a team of seven dedicated volunteers and one salaried employee, all of whom have a personal connection to endometriosis or adenomyosis. The team includes:
- Manon Barbin: Founder and salaried employee, leading the charge against endometriosis.
- Agnès: President, a mother of someone with endometriosis, committed to helping the next generation.
- Mathilde: Vice-President, bringing extensive experience in navigating the challenges of endometriosis.
- Ophélie: Secretary, a determined advocate for those affected by the disease.
- Tess: Treasurer, fiercely protective of her sister who lives with endometriosis.
- Claire: Volunteer, a dedicated professional who refuses to be intimidated by endometriosis.
- Lou: Salaried employee, passionate about fighting injustice and advocating for endometriosis patients.
- Laurine: Salaried employee, battling both endometriosis and fibromyalgia, bringing a wealth of experience to the team.
Partnerships and Recognition
Manoléta collaborates with the Complex Endometriosis Center (CEC) to provide comprehensive care and support. The association was founded on March 21, 2018, in Avignon and actively campaigns for endometriosis to be recognized as a long-term condition eligible for inclusion on the ALD30 list (a French list of long-term conditions).
In 2025, Manoléta was honored with the Atout Soleil award, recognizing its impactful work in the community. The association was born from the lived experience of its founder, Manon Barbin, and is dedicated to sharing information, raising awareness, and promoting education on reproductive and sexual health.
Looking Ahead
Manoléta continues to be a vital resource for individuals and families affected by endometriosis and adenomyosis in Vaucluse. Through its unwavering commitment to support, education, and advocacy, the association is making significant strides in improving the lives of those living with these challenging conditions.
