Dušan Šenkypl Addresses Fan Behavior at Karlovy Vary Hockey Game

Following a quarter-final victory against Liberec on March 20, 2026, Dušan Šenkypl, majority owner of HC Energie Karlovy Vary, publicly addressed inappropriate behavior exhibited by some of the team’s fans during the game. The incident involved vulgar language directed towards the opposing team and its supporters.

Šenkypl’s Response

Šenkypl initially commented on the situation via Facebook, with his statement subsequently published on the official HC Energie Karlovy Vary website. He expressed disappointment with the conduct of some fans, stating, “We won on the ice today, but we lost in the audience. It was a great match with a happier ending for us. I’m sorry that our boilermaker slipped into so many profanities. Great respect, to the boilermaker and all the Liberec fans, who cheered great and without profanity. I apologize for myself, the club and I think the vast majority of decent HCE fans, and I look forward to all of us thoroughly enjoying the series.”

Club’s Official Statement

HC Energie Karlovy Vary likewise released an official statement strongly condemning the behavior. Šenkypl supplemented his initial comment with a further statement distancing the club from the indecent actions, emphasizing that “Vulgarities, aggressive expressions or any behavior that disrupts a safe and respectful sports environment and fair play are in direct conflict with the values of our club. At the same time, we apologize to our opponents for the behavior of individual Energia fans today.”

Šenkypl’s Ownership

Dušan Šenkypl became the majority owner of HC Energie Karlovy Vary in September 2022, acquiring the stake from Karel Holoubek Seznam Zpravy. He is also a partner in the investment group Pale Fire Capital and is known for his involvement in e-commerce and technology ventures, including ePojisteni.cz and NetBrokers Holding Wikipedia.

Šenkypl’s investment in the club was not viewed as a purely business venture, but rather as a commitment to the community and the sport of hockey Karlovarsky.denik.cz.
