Wonkwang Digital University Deepens Yoga and Meditation Training with Energy-Focused Workshop
Wonkwang Digital University’s Department of Yoga and Meditation recently hosted an ‘Energy Yoga Workshop’ at its Seoul campus, focusing on the integration of viniyoga, asana meditation, breathing techniques, and qigong. The workshop aimed to provide a practice-oriented program for understanding the connection between body, breath, and energy flow.
Vinyoga and Chakra Awareness
The morning session, led by Professor Jihye Kwak, centered on ‘Energy Yoga Practice through Vinyoga.’ Participants explored the concepts and principles of energy yoga, engaging in step-by-step chakra awareness exercises, breathing practices, Viniyoga asana practice, and prana nidra. Professor Kwak also holds a position in the Department of Mind-Body Healing at Seoul Buddhist Graduate School and serves as the representative of the Korea Yoga Conference.
Asana Flow and Meditative Concentration
Professor Seungtae Park continued the workshop in the afternoon with a lecture on ‘Asana Flow Meditation.’ Participants learned to perform asanas with an awareness of energy flow centered on Kanda, and practiced sequences combining asanas and mudras to cultivate meditative concentration through body movement.
Breathing Techniques and Qigong
The workshop also included a session on ‘Breathing and Qigong,’ which compared and contrasted pranayama and Danjeon breathing. Participants engaged in qigong practice based on breathing techniques, gaining a deeper understanding of the role of breath in traditional Eastern practices and experiencing the sensation of energy flow. Wonkwang Digital University offers comprehensive programs in Yoga Studies and Meditation.
Practical Skills and Student Engagement
The workshop brought together current students and alumni, fostering a collaborative environment for enhancing understanding of energy training and strengthening practical skills. Participants expressed that the workshop provided a systematic understanding of the connections between yoga, breathing, and energy practice, and that the practice-oriented approach deepened their learning experience.
Future Workshops Planned
Department Dean Park Seung-tae emphasized the workshop’s value as a comprehensive experience of breathing and energy flow, core elements of yoga practice. He announced plans to continue offering practice-oriented special lectures to allow students to explore diverse practice methods and apply them in their professional lives. Professor Park Seungtae is a recognized authority in yoga therapy and will continue to lead such initiatives. Wonkwang Digital University also hosted an International Yoga Workshop in May 2025.
