Freshman Martínez Shines as Colorado School of Mines Golf Opens Las Vegas Desert Classic

BOULDER CITY, Nev. – Colorado School of Mines freshman Enzo Martínez made a strong debut in the Oredigger scoring lineup on the opening day of the Las Vegas Desert Classic at Boulder Creek Golf Club on Friday, March 1, 2026.

Martínez, hailing from Tona, Spain, and The Bolles School in Florida, carded a one-under 71, placing him in a tie for seventh after the first 18 holes. His round featured an eagle on the 533-yard fifth hole and consecutive birdies on the 12th and 13th holes, overcoming a double bogey on the 10th.

Despite Martínez’s impressive performance, the Orediggers found themselves tied for 16th place at +14 overall. Colt Tenpenny shot a four-over 76, finishing tied for 56th. Liam Allan carded a 77 for a tie for 72nd, and Lucas Schulte posted a 78, tying for 83rd. Lukas Taggart recorded an 82 and was the non-counter for the team.

#4 Florida Southern currently leads the tournament at +1, one stroke ahead of #19 Colorado Mesa. Luis Palomo of West Texas A&M holds the solo lead in the individual standings at -5.

The second round is scheduled for an 8 a.m. Pacific shotgun start on Monday, with Mines grouped with Colorado Christian, CSU Pueblo, and Cal State East Bay.

The Las Vegas Desert Classic features 20 teams and 100 players competing at Boulder Creek GC, a par-72 course. Tournament Leaderboard
