More than 25,800 electricity customers woke up without power across County Donegal following widespread overnight faults, while nearly 1,300 homes, farms, and businesses lost supply in the Shannonside region due to Storm Boelo, Highland Radio reported. Figures compiled from ESB Networks show 25,878 customers affected across 58 listed faults in the Killybegs and Letterkenny reporting areas alone.

Milford and Ballaghaderreen Bear the Heaviest Outage Burdens

The Milford area stands out as one of the hardest hit in Donegal, where five separate faults left 7,226 customers without electricity. In the Glenties area, four outstanding faults affected 3,391 customers, while Carndonagh recorded 3,166 properties without supply. Further south in the Shannonside region, Ballaghaderreen suffered the heaviest local impact from Storm Boelo, with nearly 1,000 properties losing electricity during the early hours of the morning, according to Shannonside.ie.

Crews Tackle Hundreds of Disconnections Across Multiple Counties

ESB Networks crews worked through multiple regional circuits to repair damaged lines and restore service. In Donegal, Buncrana initially reported 2,008 customers affected by a major fault before repair teams restored power to 3,786 customers at 7:06 am. Four separate faults in the Glenties area affecting 5,541 customers were also marked as cleared by 8:25 am. Across the Shannonside region, Shannonside.ie reported that 10 customers lost supply in Loughglynn, 16 in the Elphin area, and nearly 300 in the Drumshanbo and Ballinamore areas.

Wind Warnings Remain Active as Repair Estimates Hold for Afternoon

A Status Orange wind warning stayed in place for County Leitrim until 9:00 am before transitioning to a Status Yellow alert until midday, as reported by Shannonside.ie. Counties Roscommon and Longford also remained under a Status Yellow wind warning until midday. ESB Networks indicated an estimated restoration time of 2:00 pm for almost all outstanding faults across the affected counties, though officials cautioned that restoration estimates remain subject to change as crews encounter new hazards in the field.
