Europe Fears US Capitulation to Russia, Potential Transatlantic Alliance Collapse

In the 33-page National Security Strategy signed by president Donald Trump, the White House said Europe risks being destroyed unless it changes its culture and politics.

European leaders are deeply concerned about US efforts to strike a deal with Russia that would represent a capitulation to the West and destroy confidence in the Trump administration.

The main goal of the continent is to avoid a situation in which the crippled Zelensky is forced by the US to withdraw its troops from the Ukrainian Donbass and agree to a deal without serious US security guarantees, writes Bloomberg.

D. Vance in Munich in February – was telling. It came just as Russia’s war in Ukraine enters a possibly decisive phase.

European leaders are deeply concerned about US efforts to strike a deal that was drawn up with Russia and would amount to a capitulation on the part of the West. It shattered confidence in the Trump administration on the continent and raised more fundamental questions: The transatlantic alliance is falling apart – can Europe defend itself?

European diplomats have sometimes compared Trump’s handling of Ukraine policy to a rollercoaster ride.They are currently facing a particularly steep decline.

Kiev’s allies hoped Ukraine was in a “better place,” Starmer told Bloomberg in October.They had gone through the spat between Trump and President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office and his summit in Anchorage with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The US appeared to take a tougher stance against Moscow, imposing sanctions on its major energy companies.
