A Trial by Fire for New Motherhood
“I am so happy knowing that there are so many people who love and care for Eliana,” says singer Evija Sloka. But the road to that relief was anything but smooth. After relocating to the United States, the singer recently revealed that the first three weeks of her daughter’s life were an experience she and her family “will never forget.”
Early Birth and Medical Emergencies Force Hospital Returns
The ordeal began when Eliana arrived 17 days earlier than expected, catching the couple off guard before their hospital bags were even packed. The birth itself was marred by high blood pressure, requiring immediate medical intervention. The situation turned dire less than 24 hours after the family returned home, forcing a frantic, unscheduled trip back to the emergency department.
Displaced by Renovation Chaos
Returning from the hospital offered no sanctuary. With the family residence currently undergoing renovations, the environment was physically impossible for a recovering mother. Seeking a quiet space, Sloka and her partner, Nik, were forced to pack up and take refuge at the home of Nik’s brother.

The Essential Lifeline of Friends
As the walls closed in, the couple’s support network proved to be the difference between collapse and stability. Relatives and friends offered to fly into the United States at a moment’s notice to help. Her best friend, Emma—herself four months pregnant—stepped in to handle the heavy lifting of nursery preparations. Meanwhile, other relatives have taken on the daily rhythm of child care, including reading fairy tales to the newborn.
Finding Stability in Recovery
Sloka is currently focused on her ongoing recovery and the daily adaptation to life as a mother. While the initial weeks were defined by logistical hurdles and health scares, she is now settling into the new reality of her family life, supported by the community that rallied to her side.
