Fiorello‘s Olympic and Political Satire
Comedian and television personality Fiorello has been making headlines with his satirical commentary on current events, including the upcoming Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics and Italian politics. He recently joked about being invited to be a torchbearer, stating he declined the 300-metre run and inquired about the possibility of using a treadmill instead.
Fiorello recounted a previous torchbearer experience during the 2006 Turin Olympics, exaggerating the distance he ran while dressed as singer Al Bano. He claimed he ran from cellino San Marco to Turin, a distance of approximately 300 kilometers (186 miles), leading to the brazier being lit weeks ahead of schedule. While humorous, this account is a clear exaggeration for comedic effect.
The comedian also turned his attention to the ongoing construction of Metro C in Rome, criticizing the project’s timeline and cost. He sarcastically suggested that Chinese construction workers could complete the line during their lunch break, referencing the project’s delays and budget overruns. As of November 2023, the Metro C line is still under construction, with completion dates repeatedly pushed back. Wanted in Rome reports ongoing issues and delays.
Fiorello’s Proposed Documentary and Funding Request
Drawing a parallel to the funding received by Fabrizio Corona for his documentary, Fiorello jokingly proposed a documentary titled “The Man Who Whispered About Dried Fruit,” focusing on pastry chef Iginio Massari. He playfully requested €800,000 in funding, mirroring the controversial allocation of public funds to Corona’s project. Corona received funding for a documentary about his life and legal battles. The Guardian details the controversy surrounding the funding.
Fiorello and fabrizio Biggio’s show, Pennicance, continues on Rai Radio2 and digital terrestrial channel 202, airing Fridays from 1:45 PM.
