WhatsApp is Testing Cover Photos with Granular Privacy Controls
WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new feature that will allow users to set cover photos on their profiles, similar to those found on platforms like Facebook and instagram. The feature, currently in growth for iOS, will also include robust privacy settings to control who can view the image.
As reported by WABetaInfo, users will find a dedicated “Cover photo” section within WhatsApp’s Settings > Privacy menu. This section will offer the following visibility options:
* Everyone: Anyone with your phone number (and potentially your username in the future, as WhatsApp explores username features) will be able to see your cover photo.
* Your contacts: Only users saved in your phone’s contact list will have access to view your cover photo.
* Contact except…: Allows you to specifically exclude certain contacts from viewing your cover photo while still making it visible to the rest of your contacts.
* Nobody: Completely hides your cover photo from all users.
These privacy controls mirror those already available for profile pictures, giving users fine-grained control over their online presence within the messaging app.
While the feature is currently under development, a specific release date has not yet been announced. It’s important to note that features in beta testing are subject to change or cancellation before official release.
