Alabama Driver License Requirements

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, all Alabama residents operating a motor vehicle, with some exceptions, must possess a valid driver license. More information on license requirements can be found on the ALEA website. Applicants who have not previously been licensed in Alabama, or whose license has been expired for over three years, are required to pass a driver’s examination. Individuals holding a valid out-of-state license that has not been expired for more than one year are exempt from this requirement.
