Offaly Woman’s Urgent Plea for Life-Saving Surgery

An Offaly woman, Abi Finane, is urgently seeking €90,000 to undergo critical surgery in Germany to prevent the collapse of her jaw bone. The fundraising effort is being spearheaded by her uncle, Nathan Bennett, her brother, and her cousin, who are undertaking a 100km run over three days to raise the necessary funds.

Rare Genetic Condition and Deteriorating Health

Abi was born with Amelogenesis Imperfecta, a rare genetic condition affecting tooth enamel development, leading to fragile and discolored teeth. She experienced chronic dental pain throughout her childhood and had all her teeth removed by the age of 20 [1]. While dentures provided temporary relief, they weren’t a long-term solution.

Recent CT scans revealed a dangerously thin upper jaw bone (maxilla), measuring only 1.4mm thick. According to Nathan Bennett, this poses a significant risk of collapse within the next two years [1]. If the jaw bone collapses, Abi’s face could sink inward, severely restricting her breathing and potentially requiring a permanent ventilator.

Urgent Demand for Surgery in Germany

Doctors have determined that Abi requires a series of surgeries in Germany, with the most urgent being a hip-to-maxilla bone graft. This procedure must be performed before March 2026, as after that point, the jaw bone will be too thin to repair [1]. The total cost of the surgeries is estimated to exceed €90,000.

The family has exhausted all options with the Health Service Executive (HSE) and is now relying on public donations to cover the costs of treatment [1]. Following the bone graft, Abi will require implant posts and a final prosthesis to stabilize the jaw.

100km Run to Raise Funds

To support Abi’s urgent medical needs, Nathan Bennett, along with Abi’s brother and cousin, are running 100km over three days, from March 6th to 8th, 2026 [1]. They are appealing for donations of any size to help reach the €90,000 goal.
