NBA Fantasy: Six Players to Add to Your Roster
As we approach March, the NBA sees an increase in resting players due to injuries and strategic decisions. This creates challenges for fantasy basketball managers seeking reinforcements. Here are six players, currently available in the majority of Yahoo leagues, who could provide a boost to your squad.
Maxime Raynaud, Sacramento Kings (38% rostered)
The Sacramento Kings are currently facing a challenging situation with key players sidelined. Domantas Sabonis is out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury, while Zach LaVine (finger) and De’Andre Hunter (eye) are also unavailable. Adding to their frontcourt woes, Dylan Cardwell (ankle) is expected to be out for at least four weeks, potentially until mid-March.
With limited options, Raynaud has averaged 29 minutes over the last 11 games, capitalizing on his increased role with 12.9 points and 9.7 rebounds per night. He’s also shooting efficiently at 59.2% from the field and 85.7% from the free-throw line. While blocks may not be a significant part of his game, he presents a consistent double-double threat.
Kyle Filipowski, Utah Jazz (38% rostered)
The Utah Jazz have added Jaren Jackson Jr. At the trade deadline, signaling potential playoff aspirations. Although, their focus on player development will likely continue this season. Jackson (knee) is out for the remainder of the season after appearing in only three games with his new team. Jusuf Nurkić is also sidelined after nose surgery, and Lauri Markkanen is dealing with hip and ankle injuries, creating uncertainty about his availability.
Filipowski has emerged as a valuable fantasy contributor during the Jazz’s recent stretch of losses, averaging 12.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.9 steals, and 0.9 three-pointers over his last 10 games. With ample playing time expected, he should be rostered in at least half of leagues.
Jarace Walker, Indiana Pacers (34% rostered)
The Indiana Pacers are strategically looking to improve their lottery odds. Pascal Siakam and Andrew Nembhard have been given games off, and Ivica Zubac (ankle) has yet to debut after being acquired from the Clippers. It’s possible Zubac may not play again this season, given the Pacers’ current priorities.
Walker has seen extensive playing time recently, averaging 29 minutes over his last 14 games. This has translated to 16.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.9 three-pointers per night. Despite a season shooting percentage of 39.6%, he’s improved to 44.9% over his last 14 games. His multi-category contributions make him a priority add.
GG Jackson, Memphis Grizzlies (31% rostered)
The Memphis Grizzlies are thin up front after recent trades. Zach Edey (able) and Brandon Clarke (calf) may have played their final games this season, and Santi Aldama (knee) has appeared in only two games over the last month. This lack of depth has led to Jackson averaging 26 minutes over the last 11 games.
During this increased playing time, Jackson has averaged 17.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.1 blocks, and 2.0 three-pointers. He’s also shooting efficiently at 58.1% from the field and 47.8% from deep. While maintaining that efficiency may be challenging, his new role makes him a viable waiver wire target.
Marvin Bagley III, Dallas Mavericks (20% rostered)
The Dallas Mavericks began the season with Anthony Davis, Dereck Lively II, and Daniel Gafford as center options. Lively underwent foot surgery after appearing in only seven games, and Davis was traded to the Wizards. Gafford remains, but is averaging only 21 minutes per game.
Bagley has played 23 minutes per night since joining the Mavericks, averaging 13.5 points and 8.8 rebounds. Gafford’s frequent appearances on the injury report could create further opportunities for Bagley, making him a worthwhile addition in most leagues.
Scoot Henderson, Portland Trail Blazers (18% rostered)
The Portland Trail Blazers are dealing with injuries as they approach the conclude of the season. Deni Avdija has battled a back injury, missing six of their last 10 games, and Shaedon Sharpe (calf) will be re-evaluated in 4-6 weeks. Sharpe’s absence, as he was averaging 21.4 points per game, will require others to step up.
Henderson recently made his season debut in February and is no longer on a minute restriction. He logged 29 minutes against the Timberwolves, finishing with 19 points, six rebounds, and five assists, following a 30-minute performance against the Suns with 11 points, four rebounds, and six assists. With increased minutes and shot attempts, Henderson has the potential to shine.
