Fareway Expands Boone Distribution Center with $105 Million Freezer Facility
BOONE, Iowa – Fareway Stores Inc. Is significantly expanding its distribution capabilities in Boone, Iowa, with a new 105,000-square-foot freezer facility. The project, representing a substantial investment in the company’s long-term growth, broke ground on Monday and is slated for completion in summer 2027. Boosting Capacity and Efficiency
The expansion will nearly double the distribution center’s pallet capacity, increasing functionality in dual-temperature environments and adding dock space. Existing freezer space will be repurposed for additional dry storage, optimizing the facility’s overall efficiency. The Shelby Report notes the project will increase pallet facings by 33 percent.

Fareway leaders view the expansion as a critical step in supporting the company’s continued growth and future investments in technology and automation. According to Fareway CEO Reynolds W. Cramer, the project ensures the company has the infrastructure to support both current locations and future expansion. The Des Moines Register reports the facility is designed to support up to 200 additional stores.
