Fast-Food Chains Serving Real Eggs for Breakfast

Many consumers are curious about the ingredients in their fast-food breakfast sandwiches, specifically whether they contain real eggs or processed egg products. While some chains utilize alternatives, several fast-food restaurants are committed to using fresh, whole eggs in their breakfast offerings. Here’s a look at five chains that prioritize real eggs for popular menu items.

McDonald’s

McDonald’s offers whole eggs in select breakfast items. The Egg McMuffin and Sausage McMuffin with Egg, as well as the Big Breakfast with scrambled eggs, are made with freshly cracked and scrambled eggs cooked with liquid real butter. However, the chain as well uses a folded egg—previously cooked in suppliers’ kitchens—in items like the Sausage Biscuit with Egg.1

Wendy’s

Wendy’s uses real, freshly-cracked Grade A eggs for breakfast sandwiches like the Breakfast Baconator and Sausage Breakfast Burrito. According to the company, the eggs are freshly cracked, fried, flipped, and fried again until the yolk is fully cooked and ready for a sandwich.1

Tim Hortons

Tim Hortons has transitioned to using real whole eggs for its breakfast sandwiches. Culinary Lead Chef Tallis Voakes stated the move to freshly cracked eggs is part of a broader commitment to improving food quality, alongside upgrades to bacon, English muffins, and biscuits.1

Jack In the Box

Jack In the Box uses real cracked eggs in menu items such as the Loaded Breakfast Sandwich, which includes hickory smoked bacon, grilled ham, grilled sausage, and melty American cheese on toasted sourdough bread. The chain aims to switch to 100% cage-free eggs by the end of 2026.1

White Castle

White Castle utilizes freshly-cracked whole eggs across its entire breakfast menu. The Original Slider With Egg & Cheese features 100% beef, steam-grilled with onions, a fresh cracked egg, and a choice of American, Jalapeno, or Smoked Cheddar cheese. The Breakfast Toast Sandwich and regular Breakfast Slider (with hickory smoked bacon or savory sausage) are also made with freshly-cracked eggs.1
