A family visit turned tragic in Texas, where a 23-year-old woman was fatally shot by her father. The two had argued earlier in the day over Donald Trump.
The inquest into the death of Lucy Harrison, a British woman allegedly shot dead by her father in Prosper, near Dallas, on January 10, 2025, opened Tuesday morning at the Coroner’s Court in Cheshire, England, reports BBC.
During his testimony, the victim’s companion, Sam Littler, indicated that he had witnessed earlier that day a “big argument” between Lucy Harrison and her father about Donald Trump, who was then preparing to be inaugurated for a second term.
Mr. Littler, who was traveling to the United States with his partner for vacation, explained that she often clashed with his father when he talked about owning a gun.
According to the British media, the investigation also revealed that the father, Kris Harrison, living in the United States since his daughter’s childhood, had already undergone rehab for alcoholism. Absent at the hearing, he admitted in a statement sent to the court that he had relapsed on the day of the shooting and had consumed around 500 ml of white wine.
According to Mr. Littler’s testimony, Lucy Harrison asked her father during the morning argument: “How would you feel if it was me in this situation and I had been sexually assaulted?”
The latter would have replied that it would not affect him that much since he had two other daughters living with him, which would have deeply upset the young woman.
Later that day, about 30 minutes before they left for the airport, Lucy was in the kitchen when her father took her by the hand to his room downstairs, according to San Littler’s testimony.
About fifteen seconds later, Mr. Littler heard a loud bang and found his partner lying on the ground.
A version that differs
In his statement, Kris Harrison said he and his daughter were watching a news report about gun violence when he offered to show her his gun, which he kept in his nightstand, says BBC.
He said a shot allegedly went off as he raised the gun, not remembering whether his finger was on the trigger.
In a statement released by his lawyers, obtained by the British media, Kris Harrison said he “fully accepted” the consequences of his actions.
“Not a day goes by that I don’t feel the weight of this loss, a weight that I will carry for the rest of my life,” he said.
Prosper police initially investigated the 23-year-old’s death as potential manslaughter, but no charges were filed after a grand jury in Collin County, Texas, declined to indict her.
The current inquest has been adjourned until Wednesday, when the coroner is expected to deliver her findings.
