FEFU Secures Federal Funding for Specialized IT Tracks

Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) has won a grant under the second wave of the federal “TOP IT.START” project. This award clears the path for the launch of three specialized information technology tracks beginning in the 2026–2027 academic year. The program prioritizes early-stage internships, enhanced scholarships, and personal mentorship, aiming to pull students into live industry projects from day one.

A Competitive Selection Among 59 Applicants

FEFU emerged as one of just 21 universities selected for the grant from a pool of 59 nationwide applicants. The funding targets three distinct academic directions: Information Systems and Technologies, Applied Informatics, and Software Engineering. FEFU has set aside 200 state-funded spots for these programs, with the curriculum design specifically tailored to the top 100 first-year students.

Bridging the Gap Between Theory and Practice

The new curriculum shifts the focus toward practical application. FEFU Rector Boris Korobets stated that the university’s primary objective is to cultivate specialists capable of developing indigenous digital products and proprietary IT solutions. The university is partnering with leading Russian technology companies to structure these tracks.

Mentorship and International Opportunities

The program integrates four key pillars to ensure professional readiness:

  • Personal Mentorship: Each student is paired with a mentor from an IT company to guide their professional development.
  • Project-Based Learning: Students work in teams on real-world industry tasks starting in their first year.
  • International Mobility: Top-performing students have the opportunity to participate in internships at universities in Asia.
  • Dual-Degree Options: High-achieving students may pursue a dual-diploma program, earning credentials from both Russia and China.

Admissions Process and Federal Alignment

Entry into these tracks requires a competitive application process. Prospective students can access detailed admission rules and program requirements on the official FEFU admissions committee website, with applications processed through the federal “Gosuslugi” (State Services) portal.
