Oh Sang-uk Claims Korean Delegation MVP Honor

Fencer Oh Sang-uk won the Korean delegation’s Most Valuable Player award after securing two gold medals at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. The 30-year-old athlete from the Daejeon Metropolitan City Corporation received a 3천만원 prize from the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee.

National Training Center Chief Kim Taek-su announced the decision on Dec. 4 at the Korea House in Nagoya, Japan. Kim noted that Oh claimed titles in both the individual and team events while orchestrating a dramatic comeback victory in the team final despite dealing with a herniated lumbar disc.

On Nov. 23, Oh defeated China’s Shen Chenpeng 15-13 in the men’s saber individual final to defend his title. On Nov. 26, he teamed up with Park Sang-won, Do Kyung-dong, and Hwang Hee-geun to edge Japan 45-44 in the men’s saber team final. In the final round of that team match, Oh erased a 41-44 deficit by scoring four consecutive points.

Oh Nears South Korean Asian Games Gold Record

The performance pushed Oh’s career Asian Games gold medal total to five. He now sits just one gold medal behind fellow saber fencer Gu Bon-gil, who holds the record for the most gold medals by a South Korean athlete with six.
