Feyenoord Pursues Stadium Ownership and Organizational Restructuring

Feyenoord is actively working towards financial and organizational development, with key goals including acquiring ownership of De Kuip stadium and buying out Friends of Feyenoord. These ambitious plans, according to club officials, are feasible even without Champions League revenue.

Financial Strategy and Stadium Ownership

Dennis te Kloese, Algemeen directeur (General Director) of Feyenoord, emphasized the club’s budgetary approach. “We have always had our budget at Europa League level,” Te Kloese stated in September 2025. “Our goal is to reach sporting Champions League level, so whatever comes in is extra. We can spend and invest that in a calmer way.”

The acquisition of De Kuip and the buyout of Friends of Feyenoord are considered significant steps for the club, requiring substantial financial resources. Feyenoord intends to leverage increased income and improved facilities to achieve these objectives. The club is focused on sensible budgeting of European funds and transfer activity, building on the stability established over the past four years.

Organizational Changes and Technical Director Role

Feyenoord is also planning to adjust its organizational structure. The club is exploring the possibility of appointing a technical director to alleviate the dual responsibilities currently held by Dennis te Kloese.

“With the growth of the club and the possibilities we now have, we need to strengthen the organization,” Te Kloese explained. “I think now is a very good time to separate my roles, with a clear framework and responsibility for everyone.” This restructuring aims to build upon the strong financial foundation established under Te Kloese’s leadership, facilitating unification efforts and streamlining internal organization with shareholders.

The move is also intended to provide structural strength in the transfer market.

Addressing Sporting Performance

Despite the positive developments, Te Kloese acknowledged challenges in maintaining consistent sporting performance, citing injuries within the squad as a contributing factor. The club is committed to improving the atmosphere and addressing areas for improvement, with a particular focus on player fitness.

“We are trying to do as much as possible with the entire club to get the atmosphere moving in the right direction again,” Te Kloese said. “There are certainly points that we need to improve. What we are very attentive to is our fitness. We support the medical staff as much as possible and carefully analyze where we need to improve. It is very difficult to maintain consistent performance when you have so many absentees. That’s one of the things we’re focused on in the short term. We carefully review our internal processes.”

Recent Leadership Change

In August 2025, Feyenoord ended the contract of Dennis te Kloese as Algemeen Directeur, marking the end of a successful period for the club. Match Global News reported that Te Kloese was instrumental in stabilizing the club after years of financial and sporting difficulties, bringing international experience and streamlining processes. His leadership was credited with achievements such as the 2023 championship and strong European campaigns.

Despite the positive impact, the decision to terminate his contract stemmed from disagreements with the Raad van Commissarissen (Board of Commissioners) regarding long-term strategy, particularly concerning youth development investments and stadium plans.
