Final Fantasy Resonance Launches on Steam at 49,99 Euros

Square Enix released Final Fantasy Resonance on Windows via Steam on Thursday, October 22, 2026, recording 18,462 concurrent players on its launch day. Developed jointly by Square Enix and LANCARSE Ltd. with Square Enix serving as the publisher, the role-playing game debuted with 306 user reviews on its first day, resulting in a “Very Positive” Steam rating driven by 289 positive scores and 17 negative scores.

Player Counts Against Major Steam Titles

The launch-day peak of 18,462 concurrent players for Final Fantasy Resonance occupies a different tier compared to the largest titles on Steam. Counter-Strike 2 leads with a daily peak of 1,205,009 players, followed by Dota 2 at 907,099 players and PUBG: Battlegrounds at 778,436 players. Further down the chart, Deadlock records a daily peak of 200,271 players, Apex Legends reaches 206,385, and Wardogs hits 200,134. While those figures represent daily highs, the player count for the Square Enix release captures an immediate snapshot of active users during its debut hours.

Transitioning From Mobile Gacha to Premium JRPG

Final Fantasy Resonance transforms the narrative and mechanics of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius into a standalone premium experience. Square Enix stripped out the original gacha mechanics and character-collection systems. The game adapts the first season of the Brave Exvius story, following an amnesiac young woman named Fina alongside Rain and Lasswell as they journey across Crystal Shrines to thwart a disaster caused by a group of knights known as the Sworn Six.

Turn-Based Combat Replaces Touch Controls and Gacha Mechanics

The gameplay shift removes touch controls in favor of traditional turn-based combat alongside a streamlined job system. Rather than drawing characters through random gacha mechanics, players summon assistance from “Visions,” which include heroes from past entries in the franchise alongside select characters from Brave Exvius. Equipping a Vision such as the Warrior of Light grants characters passive skills, healing spells, and elemental affinities tied to light, lightning, and earth. Both characters and their equipped Visions accumulate experience points side by side after every battle.
