At least twenty people sustained injuries during a major fire at Camping Bella Italia on the southern shore of Lake Garda, nos.nl reported. The blaze broke out shortly after 06:00, destroying approximately twenty mobile homes and several vehicles before emergency responders brought the flames under control.
Fire Breaks Out at Camping Bella Italia
Emergency services rushed the wounded individuals to nearby hospitals following the early morning fire at the five-star resort in Peschiera del Garda. Italian media outlets indicated that one of the injured victims remains in critical condition. Most of the casualties suffered from carbon monoxide poisoning after flames engulfed the vacation accommodations.
Reporting on the casualty figures reveals a minor discrepancy between regional accounts. While nos.nl reported at least twenty injuries, Hart van Nederland noted that at least 24 people were hurt in the incident and rushed to emergency care. Both outlets confirmed that approximately twenty mobile homes and multiple cars were completely destroyed.
Firefighting efforts proved difficult as emergency crews faced exploding gas cylinders throughout the morning. The five-star resort spans roughly 400 pitches alongside some 1,300 accommodations, including apartments and mobile homes, serving one of Italy’s most popular vacation destinations.
German Vacationers Assist Emergency Response
Four German tourists who arrived at the resort on Saturday for their holiday stepped in to help before local professional crews arrived. The individuals, who serve as volunteer firefighters in Germany, immediately began waking sleeping guests, removing dangerous gas cylinders from the area, and assisting with suppression work, regional president Luca Zaia wrote on social media.

The volunteer firemen acted during the critical window before local engines reached the scene. President Zaia publicly thanked the four visitors for their rapid intervention.
Uncertainty Surrounds Cause and Nationalities
Authorities have not yet determined the root cause of the blaze at the Peschiera del Garda holiday site. Investigators are still examining the remains of the destroyed structures.

Italian authorities have not released the identities or nationalities of the victims receiving hospital treatment. Meanwhile, Dutch emergency assistance organizations Eurocross and the ANWB confirmed they received no requests for help from travelers from the Netherlands currently staying near Lake Garda.
