The Scarborough Communications Center received a fire alarm notification from a monitoring company at approximately 10:00 a.m. On Sunday, March 8, 2026, at 10 Snow Canning Rd, according to the Scarborough Fire Department . Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke within the 76,000-square-foot building.

An “all-hands” response was initiated after crews discovered an active fire on the second floor. The sprinkler system activated and successfully contained the fire to the room where it originated, which was operating as a cannabis facility .

Fire crews worked at the scene for approximately two hours, focusing on extinguishing the fire, inspecting the affected area, and ventilating the building to remove smoke .

Collaboration and Investigation

Scarborough firefighters received assistance from departments in Old Orchard Beach, Biddeford, Saco, and Portland . The State Fire Marshal’s Office and Scarborough Code Enforcement similarly provided support.
