Queensland Firebirds End Home Drought with Victory Over NSW Swifts
Queensland Firebirds have broken a year-long Super Netball home win drought with a 77-66 victory over the New South Wales Swifts at Nissan Arena in Brisbane on Saturday evening.
The win marks the Firebirds’ first Super Netball home triumph since Round 2 of the 2025 season and comes as part of their 30th-anniversary celebrations.
Despite being injury-plagued and forced into multiple lineup changes, the Firebirds overcame a five-point halftime deficit to secure the win. The Swifts led at the break, but a strong third quarter from Queensland proved decisive.
The result extends the Swifts’ winless run, with the team still seeking its first Suncorp Super Netball victory since Round 2.
The match was described as a compelling contest, with the Firebirds’ resilience in the second half turning the tide after a controlled first half by New South Wales.
Queensland celebrated the milestone anniversary in style, delivering a stirring performance that ended their prolonged home victory wait.
