Flyers Roster Shuffled After Opening Win
The Philadelphia Flyers recalled defenseman Hunter McDonald from the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms and placed defenseman Cam York on injured reserve with an upper-body injury following their first victory of the 2026-27 campaign. The moves leave the team with 21 players on the roster.
Defensive Lineup Changes
Philadelphia reassigned defenseman Helge Grans and forward Jack Studnicka to AHL Lehigh Valley alongside the McDonald recall and York placement. York’s injured reserve placement is retroactive to October 8th, meaning he is eligible for activation at any time, though the team has not issued a firm recovery timeline after he missed five consecutive games.

The reassignments of Grans and Studnicka create the necessary roster space to activate Travis Konecny and Rasmus Ristolainen from injured reserve. Both players carry day-to-day recovery timelines. If forwards Sean Couturier and Tyson Foerster cannot play in tomorrow’s contest against the Colorado Avalanche after being listed as game-time decisions by Siobhan Nolan of The Hockey News, the Flyers can pivot to a lineup featuring 11 forwards and seven defensemen.
Hunter McDonald Seeks Blue Line Impact
McDonald joins the club after registering six assists in 65 games for the Phantoms last season. He has started the current AHL campaign with one goal and three points through his first six contests, giving Philadelphia a fresh option on the blue line.
