Search Continues for Missing Woman and Teen in Dordtse Kil After Foot Discoveries
Dordrecht, Netherlands – A large-scale search operation is underway in and around the Dordtse Kil river in Dordrecht, following the discovery of a foot belonging to both 75-year-old Marijke de Groot and 16-year-old Yoran Krol, who have both been missing for an extended period.
The Disappearances
Yoran Krol disappeared on the night of December 23-24, 2023, after last being seen at a youth center in Almkerk. His bicycle was later found on the Merwedebrug near Gorinchem and his jacket was discovered weeks later in the Merwede near Papendrecht Rijnmond. Marijke de Groot was reported missing in March 2024, and her bicycle was found on the Boven Havendijk in ‘s-Gravendeel Rijnmond.
Recent Developments
The search was intensified after a foot in a shoe was found in the Beneden-Merwede on Friday, identified as belonging to Yoran Krol. Subsequently, a foot belonging to Marijke de Groot was also discovered in the same area AD.nl. Both feet were found in close proximity to each other.
The Search Operation
Police deployed the Landelijk Team Onderwaterzoekingen (LTOZ), a specialized underwater investigation team, to search the Dordtse Kil using boats and sonar equipment Rijnmond. Search dogs trained to detect human scent were also used to scour the riverbanks. As of the latest reports, the search has not yielded any further findings AD.nl.
Police Investigation
Authorities have not yet established any connection between the disappearances of Marijke de Groot and Yoran Krol X. The investigation remains ongoing as police attempt to determine the circumstances surrounding their disappearances.
