Search for Missing Persons Intensifies in Dordtse Kil River

Dordrecht, Netherlands – A large-scale search operation concluded on Monday, March 9, 2026, in and around the Dordtse Kil river, focusing on the cases of two long-term missing persons: Marijke de Groot, 75, and Yoran Krol, 16. The search was prompted by the discovery of a foot in a shoe belonging to each individual.

The Disappearances

Yoran Krol went missing in December 2023, last seen near a youth center in Almkerk. His bicycle was later found on the Merwedebrug near Gorinchem, and his jacket was discovered weeks later in the Merwede near Papendrecht Rijnmond. Marijke de Groot was reported missing in March 2024, and her bicycle was found on the bank of the Dordtse Kil in ’s-Gravendeel Politie.nl.

Recent Discoveries and Search Efforts

The search operation began after a foot in a shoe was found in the Beneden-Merwede, identified as belonging to Yoran Krol. Subsequently, a foot belonging to Marijke de Groot was also discovered in the same area Rijnmond.

The police deployed the Landelijk Team Onderwaterzoekingen (LTOZ), a specialized underwater investigation team, utilizing boats and sonar equipment to search the riverbed. Search dogs trained to detect human scent were also used to scour the riverbanks Het Kontakt.

Search Results

Despite the extensive search, no further evidence was found. The police have stated that, at this time, there are no indications of foul play in either case Het Kontakt, Politie.nl.

Ongoing Investigation
