Krasimir Kapov Leaves Football for Programming: A New Chapter for the Belarusian Striker
Belarusian forward Krasimir Kapov has announced his decision to temporarily step away from football to focus on a career in programming, marking a significant shift in his professional life. The 27-year-old, who previously played for Molodechno-2018, revealed in an interview that the demands of his new job have made it increasingly difficult to balance both careers.
The Transition from Pitch to Code
Kapov, who holds a degree in football coaching from the Belarusian State University of Physical Education (BГУФК), disclosed that he began exploring programming six months ago. “A friend suggested I give it a try, and I ended up getting into it,” he said. “I’m a self-taught programmer, and my friend has been helping me along the way.”
The transition came with challenges. Kapov described his daily routine as a tight schedule: “Training would start at 11 a.m., and I’d leave at 10 a.m. To get there. After training, I’d have lunch and then spend the rest of the day working on programming. I’d finish around 9 p.m.” This workload, he explained, left little time for recovery or family life. “I only had about two hours a day for rest and family, which became unsustainable.”
Financial Motivations and Future Plans
While Kapov emphasized that his decision was not solely financial, he acknowledged that his programming work provides a more stable income. “If I leave football, I definitely won’t lose out financially,” he noted. However, he stressed that the move was also about securing his future. “I wanted to create a foundation for life after football. Right now, I’m providing for my family, and I’m taking a step toward a career that can continue beyond my playing days.”
Despite his current hiatus, Kapov remains open to returning to football in the future. “I’m not ruling out a return, but for now, I’m focused on this new path. I’ll see what happens after the summer transfer window.”
Support from Coaching Staff and Teammates
Kapov’s decision to pause his football career was met with understanding from his former coach, Yuri Puntus. “He understood my choice and supported me,” Kapov said. “We parted ways amicably, and the team was supportive too.” The striker also mentioned that his father advised him to make the decision himself, adding, “He supported me once I took the step.”
Looking Ahead
For now, Kapov is fully committed to his programming career, though he remains connected to football through local amateur leagues in Mогилёв. “I’m not playing in any leagues right now, but I’m keeping my options open,” he said. His story highlights the growing trend of athletes diversifying their careers, balancing the uncertainties of sports with the stability of tech-related fields.
