Ford CEO Jim Farley pulled back the curtain on the automaker’s upcoming midsize electric truck, revealing its official name: the Ford Fathom. Alongside the branding, Ford shared striking photos and video footage of heavily camouflaged prototypes putting in miles during testing across the Nevada desert and navigating the streets of Las Vegas.
Camouflaged Prototypes Break Cover in Las Vegas
Production is officially slated to begin in 2027. The vehicles will roll off the lines at Ford’s Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky.
Building on a New Universal EV Platform
The Fathom holds a foundational position as the premier vehicle engineered on Ford’s brand-new universal electric platform. According to the Detroit Free Press, corporate leadership has already briefed its dealership network on the platform’s scalability, noting that up to five distinct models could eventually share these core Kentucky assembly lines.
To hit competitive price points, the manufacturer is implementing an innovative assembly process designed to require significantly fewer total parts than traditional manufacturing methods.
Cabin Space, Cargo Capacity, and Tech Integration
Designed with a five-passenger seating capacity, the truck balances utility with interior room. It pairs an open cargo bed with a functional front trunk, while Ford promises that the vehicle’s total interior volume will comfortably surpass that of a Toyota RAV4.
Modern connectivity and driver-assistance features come standard across the build sheet. The Fathom features bidirectional power capabilities, a digital key system, and native compatibility with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Every model leaves the factory fully integrated with Apple Maps and compatible with BlueCruise, Ford’s hands-free highway driving assistance system.
Canadian Pricing and Projected Driving Range
Looking north of the border, the entry-level Ford Fathom equipped with a standard-range battery carries an announced starting price of $38,690 in Canada. This figure incorporates a $4,000 federal rebate issued through Canada’s Electric Vehicle Affordability Program, though local taxes, optional packages, and delivery fees remain extra.
While official range figures are still pending from the automaker, Ford Authority estimates that an extended-range variant will target approximately 300 miles, or roughly 483 kilometers, of driving distance on a single charge.
Official 2027 Rollout and Pre-Order Window
The prototypes spotted turning heads in Las Vegas wore heavy camouflage stamped with distinctive QR codes and lettering. These subtle markers point directly to the timeline: official customer pre-orders will open in 2027.
That same year will mark the official removal of the prototype camouflage. Ford plans to stage a full public unveiling of the Fathom ahead of its commercial rollout later in 2027.
