Jana Armstrong Murder Case: Toowoomba Community Mourns Young Mother Found Dead After Days Missing

Queensland police have arrested a 48-year-old man in connection with the murder of 30-year-old Jana Armstrong, whose remains were discovered in bushland 50 kilometers south of Toowoomba, according to a statement from the Queensland Police Service (QPS). Armstrong, who gave birth to a son earlier this year, was reported missing four days before her body was found on Saturday night by wildlife hunters. The suspect, identified by police as her former partner, faces domestic violence-related murder charges and is set to appear in Toowoomba Magistrate’s Court.

Armstrong was last seen at her home in Toowoomba on Wednesday, police confirmed. Her remains were discovered by a group of wildlife hunters in an area approximately 50 kilometers south of the town, as reported by SBS News. While the body has not yet been formally identified, QPS Acting Inspector Brian Collins stated that investigators are “certain” the remains belong to Armstrong. “This is a horrific crime,” Collins said, adding that the community would be “horrified” by the death of a mother of a four-month-old child.

Armstrong’s sister, Faith Isaacs, posted a heartfelt tribute on social media, writing, “Losing my beautiful sister in this way is something I will never be able to understand or put into words.” The statement was shared widely online, highlighting the family’s grief. Police have not yet released the cause of death or details about whether a weapon was involved, as a post-mortem examination remains pending.

Charges Filed Against Former Partner

The suspect, whose name has not been publicly released, was arrested on Sunday and charged with murder linked to domestic violence. Collins noted that no domestic violence protection order was in place prior to Armstrong’s death, but emphasized that all interactions between the couple and police will be reviewed. “I don’t think there’s anything police could have done to prevent this at all,” he said, according to a QPS press release.
