Formula E partners with Heron Preston at ComplexCon
Formula E teamed up with streetwear designer Heron Preston for the 10-year anniversary of ComplexCon, held October 3 and 4 in Los Angeles, to showcase an electric motorsport partnership built around sustainability and high performance. A bright orange race car hung from the ceiling in the convention center, drawing crowds to the brand’s booth where Preston interacted with fans and presented the collaborative work, USA Today reported.
Preston, a New York-based designer who co-founded Been Trill in the early 2010s alongside Matthew Williams and the late Virgil Abloh, noted that his return to ComplexCon marked a decade since his last appearance at the event. He relaunched his namesake brand in December after reacquiring the rights, aligning his creative trajectory with the electric racing championship.
Shared values of sustainability and innovation
The collaboration bridges streetwear fashion and electric motorsport through shared commitments to eco-conscious practices and technological advancement. Preston stated that he has always drawn inspiration from sustainability, recycled fabrics, and reduced environmental impact, which mirrors Formula E’s mission of reusing energy to push motorsports forward.
USA Today detailed the contents of the booth, which featured racing suits, a deconstructed car wall, and a merchandise collection consisting of hoodies and T-shirts. Preston noted that the partnership serves as an initial launchpad for joint projects planned over the coming year.
GEN4 race cars introduce record speed
Beyond fashion, the partnership highlights the engineering milestones of the electric racing series. The upcoming 2026-27 season introduces the GEN4 race cars, which accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in approximately 1.8 seconds and reach top speeds of about 208 miles per hour, establishing them as the fastest vehicles in the series yet.
Preston attended a Formula E race in Brooklyn during its run in Red Hook from 2017 to 2022, but has yet to witness the GEN4 model compete on a race track. He expressed anticipation for seeing the new machinery in action during upcoming race weekends.
