Fort Collins police are investigating the death of a 69-year-old cyclist found near the intersection of Canyon Avenue, Sherwood Street, and Magnolia Street on February 20, 2026. Authorities have stated that foul play is not suspected in the incident.

Police responded to the scene shortly after 6:00 a.m. On February 20th, where they discovered the man and his bicycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Fort Collins Police Services spokesperson Brandon Barnes as reported by the Coloradoan.
Investigation Status
Investigators are currently working to determine the cause of death, exploring possibilities such as speed or a medical event. Police spokesperson Brittany Springer indicated that the investigation is ongoing according to the Coloradoan. There is no indication that a vehicle was involved, and the incident appears to involve a single bicyclist.
Coroner’s Office Involvement
The Larimer County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy on February 24, 2026, to determine the cause and manner of death. Spokesperson Rafael Moreno stated that the coroner’s office as well does not suspect foul play or vehicle involvement as reported by the Coloradoan and according to a Facebook post by the Coloradoan.
If a definitive cause and manner of death cannot be established during the autopsy, toxicology results will be analyzed, a process that could take up to six weeks.
