FORT WALTON BEACH – Fort Walton Beach High school’s soccer team demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship and team unity during their Region 1-4A semifinal match against Vanguard on Thursday. With a comfortable 4-1 lead and over 15 minutes remaining in the game, Coach Mario Rodriguez made the unusual decision to substitute his starting lineup.
The starters – having already secured goals from Isaiah Esparza, Juanma Cotes, Brian Velasquez, and Oscar Gallardo – were given an opportunity to rest. However,rather than relaxing on the bench,the players chose to remain standing and actively support their teammates.This display of camaraderie underscored the team’s strong bond and commitment to collective success.
