Houston Officer Relieved of Duty Amid Investigation Into Alleged Racist Video

Houston Police Department officials have placed Officer Ashley Gonzalez on administrative leave while they investigate a video that allegedly shows her using racist language. The video, which was submitted to FOX 26 by a viewer, has not been publicly confirmed by the department as featuring Gonzalez, but sources indicate she is the subject of the ongoing investigation.

The Afro American Police Officers League issued a statement saying they are “disturbed” and “troubled” by the video’s content. According to FOX 26’s Leslie DelasBour, the league emphasized the importance of accountability and called on the department to respond transparently to the allegations.

In the video, the woman repeatedly uses a racial slur when referring to Black individuals and describes using the same term during an arrest. She also states that she felt “at peace” after uttering the slur. FOX 26 has chosen not to broadcast the full video due to its offensive nature.

Two Houston police organizations have publicly criticized the video, stating they are troubled by its implications and urging the department to issue a clear response to other officers. The department has acknowledged awareness of the video but has not confirmed Gonzalez’s involvement, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.

As of April 22, 2026, the Houston Police Department continues to review the video and has not released further details about potential disciplinary actions. The case remains under internal investigation.
