Wastewater surveillance across France continues to register rising concentrations of the coronavirus. Despite this broad upward trend, national virus circulation remains well below the peak levels recorded during the same period last year. Regional distribution data from health authorities highlights distinct geographic variations in medical demand. SOS Médecins emergency house-call consultations for Covid-19 are currently highest in the departments of the Nord, Morbihan, and Hérault. Meanwhile, emergency department admission rates for the virus peak in the Essonne, Val-de-Marne, and Manche departments, while hospital admission rates following emergency visits are highest in Lozère.
Surge in Medical Consultations and Pediatric Cases
During the week of September 14, 2026, SOS Médecins recorded 390 additional medical consultations for Covid-19 compared to the previous week, marking a 76% increase. Pediatric consultations for suspected Covid-19 among children rose by 16%, adding 25 cases week-on-week, while adult consultations increased by 67%, accounting for an additional 204 cases over the same timeframe.
Public Health Guidance and Vaccination Schedule
Health authorities maintain that the general population remains well-protected against severe forms of the disease. However, older adults, individuals with immunosenescence, and those experiencing immunosuppression due to underlying medical conditions or treatments face an elevated risk of severe complications, hospitalization, and death.
