YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles Expands Food Access with FeedLA Program
The YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles is bolstering its commitment to food security across Los Angeles County with its FeedLA program, providing meals, groceries and home deliveries to individuals and families in need. The initiative, which distributed over 9 million pounds of food in 2024 [1], operates at 29 YMCA locations and is open to all, regardless of Y membership.
FeedLA: A Comprehensive Support System
FeedLA offers a multi-faceted approach to combating food insecurity. Programs include hot to-go meals, fresh produce distribution, and home grocery deliveries [1]. The program aims to provide not just sustenance, but also a sense of relief and belonging to those it serves [1].
Addressing SNAP Benefit Delays
The expansion of FeedLA comes at a critical time, as residents who rely on CalFresh (California’s SNAP program) are experiencing delays and reductions in benefits [3]. A new partnership between the YMCA and state leaders will distribute $7.5 million worth of food to address these challenges [3] and [4].
