President Claudia Sheinbaum asserted that the New Mexican School is part of the country’s transformation and will continue to be implemented, so the Free Textbooks will not have changes.
The national leader ruled out modifying the textbooks, after yesterday Marx Arriaga was dismissed as director of Educational Materials of the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) and will barricade himself in his office with claims that relieving him of his position meant attacking the New Mexican School and its contents.
Before high school students, the President said that since 2018 things have changed in the country with the arrival of the Fourth Transformation, “with new textbooks and those are not going to change, the new Mexican School is part of the transformation we are experiencing.”
Basic education content with information about women in history
He indicated that information about women in history would be added to the basic education contents.
In addition, President Sheinbaum spoke out in favor of cutting the subjects taught in the National Baccalaureate.
During the delivery of the expansion of the National Baccalaureate in San Pablo del Monte, Tlaxcala, he pointed out that it is “false that all private schools are better than public schools, all high schools are good.”
He suggested that in upper secondary education there should be fewer subjects, since he asked the students attending the event and they responded that they had at least 11 subjects, 20 minutes back and, on average, they spent two hours doing homework.
“Of course the experts have to say it, but it is not necessary to take 11 subjects, you can learn the same with fewer subjects,” he said.
He added that his point of view is that “not so many subjects are necessary to learn and that we need to have a little more recess, the point is that you have a good time at school so that it is a pleasant space and where we always want to return.”
National Baccalaureate Strategy
He indicated that the National Baccalaureate strategy is carried out together with students, teachers and parents, together to improve.
Regarding the results, he indicated that in 2025 “we built 44,685 new places throughout the country, with new schools, new complete buildings.” He stated that the second strategy is to expand the current schools and the “third strategy is to do afternoon shifts in secondary schools, they are empty in the afternoons, we can take advantage of the spaces.”
He explained that the new high schools have classrooms where high school will be studied, with its computer area, and cultural activities, which is why he announced that it will be called Cyberbachillerato, we are also going to name it Margarita Maza.
He announced that the goal by the end of 2026 is to reach 150,000 new places in the national high school.
He indicated that in Mexico City and the State of Mexico we have already eliminated the admission exam, so throughout the country “we are going to eliminate the high school admission exam, so that everyone can enter.”
