Bergamo Women’s Health Initiatives: Free Screenings and Support Services

Bergamo, Italy is launching a series of health initiatives throughout March 2026 focused on women’s health, including free cancer screenings, vaccinations and psychological support. These programs, organized by ASST Papa Giovanni XXIII, ASST Bergamo Est, and ASST Bergamo Ovest, aim to promote early detection, prevention, and overall well-being for women in the region.

Free Cancer Screenings

Mammography Screening

Free breast cancer screenings are available on March 4th and 5th, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the following locations:

• March 4th: San Giovanni Bianco Hospital
• March 5th: Pope John XXIII Hospital in Bergamo

These screenings are targeted towards:

• Women between 45 and 49 years old who have not had a mammogram in the last 12 months.
• Women between 50 and 74 years old who have not had a mammogram in the last 24 months.

Reservations are required and can be made through the regional portal: prenotasalute.regione.lombardia.it.

Cervical Cancer Screening

Free cervical cancer screening, including Pap tests and HPV tests, is being offered at various clinics.

• Villa d’Almè – March 4th at 2:30 PM: Group information meeting on the Papilloma Virus, followed by screening with Pap tests for women aged 25-29.
• Bergamo (Borgo Palazzo Consultancy) – March 6th from 8:30 to 9:30 AM: Information meeting, followed by screening. Free and open access; booking is available by calling 035.2676326 (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM).

Screening is available to women residing in the ASST Papa Giovanni XXIII territory who:

• Have not had a Pap test in the last 3 years.
• Have not had an HPV test in the last 5 years.
• Have not completed dual HPV vaccination by age 15.

Free HPV Vaccination

Free HPV vaccination is available on March 4th and 5th, 2026, at the following locations:

• March 4th & 5th, 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM: Bergamo Borgo Palazzo Vaccination Centre
• March 5th, 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM: Zogno Vaccination Centre

The vaccination is aimed at girls aged 12 to 26 and older women belonging to risk categories. No reservation is required.

Additional Support Services

Information Point on Women’s Services

On March 3rd, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, an information space with healthcare professionals will be available on Hospital Street at the Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital. This will provide information on services dedicated to women’s health and health education.

Prevention of Back and Neck Pain

Meetings on the prevention of back and neck pain will be held on March 2nd, 2026, at the Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital (Tower 1, ground floor) at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Registration is required via email: formazione.fisioterapia@asst-pg23.it.

Psychological Support (ASST Bergamo Est)

As part of International Women’s Day, ASST Bergamo Est is offering free psychological consultations on March 6th, 2026, at Community Houses in Serious, Grumello del Monte, Alzano Lombardo, Trescore Balneario, and Clusone, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Telephone booking is recommended on 035.3063227 (open from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM) between February 20th and March 5th, 2026.

Further Cancer Prevention (ASST Bergamo Ovest)

On March 7th, 2026, ASST Bergamo Ovest will offer free Pap tests at family clinics in Trescore Balneario (10:00 AM – 12:00 PM), Gazzaniga (10:00 AM – 12:00 PM), and Seriate (3:00 PM – 5:00 PM). Booking is required via email: prevenzione.donne@asst-ovest.it.

These initiatives aim to increase awareness of HPV, persistent infections, and HPV-related tumors, promoting vaccination, screening, and accurate information as fundamental prevention tools.
