Northern regions on alert for snowstorms, housing prices now at record high and more news from Spain on Friday November 21st.

Much of northern Spain on alert for snowstorms

The arrival of an Arctic air mass has caused temperatures in Spain to drop dramatically this week, triggering whether alerts across the country.

Eleven Spanish regions are under yellow or orange alerts this Friday for snow, rain, storms and wind, according to the State Meteorological Agency AEMET.

The storm is expected to continue this weekend,with frost forecast and maximum temperatures not exceeding 10C.

Provinces with yellow snow warnings include Huesca, Teruel, Zaragoza, León, Palencia, Soria, Lleida, Vizcaya, Asturias, and La Rioja. Orange alerts have been put in place in Burgos, Guipúzcoa, Álava, Cantabria and Navarre.

In burgos, up to 25cm of snow could fall in 24 hours, while in Asturias and Cantabria, it could reach up to 20cm. In the other areas under orange warning, we could see between 5 and 10cm of snow.

yellow warnings are also in place along the Catalan coast, the Balearics and northern Valencia for strong winds and high waves. Gusts of up to 80 kilometres per hour are expected along the coasts as well as into Aragón. The Balearic Island of Menorca has been put on orange alert, where waves are forecast to reach up to 8 or 9 metres along with wind gusts of 80km/h.
