Fundy Health Centre in Blacks Harbour Receives $1.5 Million for Expansion and Enhanced Patient Care

The Fundy Health Centre in Blacks Harbour, New Brunswick, will undergo an expansion and staffing increase thanks to a $1.5 million investment from the provincial government. The funding aims to connect the remaining 1,138 unattached patients in the Eastern Charlotte municipality with a primary-care provider.

Expanding Collaborative Care in Charlotte County

New Brunswick Health Minister John Dornan announced the funding on Monday, February 24, 2026, stating that the Fundy Health Centre is the first clinic with a concrete plan to attach all residents in its geographic area to a primary healthcare provider . The expansion will include the addition of one nurse practitioner and three healthcare support staff, supplementing the existing team of four nurse practitioners .

A Hub for Primary Care

Premier Susan Holt emphasized the importance of the Fundy Health Centre, noting that facilities like it are “bursting at the seams” and require investment to serve as the “hub of primary care for the community” . The goal is to ensure residents have access to preventative primary care close to home .

Long-Standing Community Resource

The Fundy Health Centre has served the community for 25 years, a factor Health Minister Dornan highlighted as a significant benefit. He noted the existing familiarity and trust patients have with the facility .

Part of a Larger Provincial Initiative

This investment is the 12th collaborative care clinic announced by the Holt government, fulfilling a key campaign promise . While not all clinics will be entirely new builds, the majority are expansions of existing facilities with added staff or space . The province previously committed to opening a clinic in St. Stephen in 2025 .

Timeline and Recruitment

Horizon Health Network CEO Margaret Melanson stated that recruitment for the new positions is already underway . Renovations are expected to take between 18 to 24 months, but will not interrupt the hiring process . The clinic currently serves over 4,000 patients .

Positive Impact on Patient Care

Kate Burkholder, a nurse practitioner with 23 years of experience at the centre, emphasized that the funding will directly improve patient care by addressing space constraints .
