G.I. Joe: Skybound and Image Comics Launch Kickstarter for Definitive Compendium Sets

Fans of the iconic G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero comic series are in for a treat. Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics are launching a Kickstarter campaign on March 24, 2026, at 6 a.m. PT, for G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Compendium Sets 1+2. These sets promise to be the most comprehensive collection of the series ever assembled, spanning from 1994 to 2022.

Comprehensive Collection of G.I. Joe History

The compendium sets will encompass a total of eight volumes, collecting over 300 issues from both the Marvel and IDW eras of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero. The project features new key art by the acclaimed artist Andy Kubert. According to Alex Antone, Editorial Director at Skybound, these collections represent “the most comprehensive assemblage of G.I. JOE: A REAL AMERICAN HERO material ever.”

A Nod to Loyal Fans and New Additions

Larry Hama, a key figure in the G.I. Joe comic legacy, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating it will be the first time a uniform hard-bound edition includes the first 300 issues, along with covers and exclusive extras. Fans who previously backed the first G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Compendium Set campaign will have the opportunity to purchase the new set.

Energon Universe and Skybound’s G.I. Joe Initiative

Skybound Entertainment acquired the licenses to produce G.I. Joe comics following the end of IDW Publishing’s run in 2022 [1]. Since November 2023, Skybound has been publishing a series of limited series within the Energon Universe, alongside continuing IDW’s A Real American Hero series [1]. The Energon Universe storyline sees G.I. Joe investigating the origins of Cybertronians although Cobra seeks to harness the power of Energon [1].
