Gallarate Launches Official WhatsApp Channel for Citizen Updates

The Municipality of Gallarate has launched an official WhatsApp channel to provide citizens with direct access to information, alerts and updates on their smartphones. This new communication tool, available free of charge, aims to modernize the municipality’s outreach and complement existing channels like the official website, social media, and in-person services.

How the WhatsApp Channel Works

The WhatsApp channel operates as a one-way messaging service. The Municipality will send communications to subscribers, who will receive them directly on their phones. Users will not be able to reply to messages or initiate conversations with the administration through this channel. The privacy of users is protected, as phone numbers are not visible to other users or the Municipality (VareseNews).

Types of Information Shared

The WhatsApp channel will disseminate information of public interest related to municipal activities. This includes:

  • Updates on municipal services (schedules, closures, administrative deadlines)
  • Changes to traffic patterns or waste collection
  • Civil protection alerts and emergency updates
  • Promotion of cultural, sporting, social, and educational events
  • Information on competitions, public selections, and projects related to education, environment, inclusion, innovation, and safety.

Important Considerations

The Municipality emphasizes that the WhatsApp channel does not replace official communication channels such as the praetorian register, the official website (Comune di Gallarate), PEC (certified email), or the URP (Single Contact Point). Messages sent via WhatsApp do not have legal value and should not be considered official notifications.

Modernizing Communication

“The WhatsApp channel represents a further step in the modernization of the Municipality of Gallarate’s institutional communication,” explains Councilor for Municipal Services, Stefania Picchetti (VareseNews). “We aim for to reach citizens through a widely used tool, offering useful, timely, and verified information. It is a simple and free service designed to keep the community updated on what is happening in the city.”

How to Subscribe

Registration is free and voluntary. To follow the channel:

  1. Open the WhatsApp app on your smartphone.
  2. Click on this link.
  3. Press the “Follow” button to start receiving communications.

Alternatively, you can search for “Municipality of Gallarate” directly in the “Channels” section of the app.

Privacy and Data Protection

The service is designed in compliance with privacy regulations, including the European Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Personal Data Protection Code. Registered phone numbers are not visible to the Municipality or other users, and personal data is processed solely for the service’s institutional purposes, with options to register or unsubscribe at any time.
