Garmin has set the price for its new flagship cycling computer, the Edge 1060, at 18,990 CZK. This marks a price increase from the 17,490 CZK official price point of its predecessor, the Edge 1050, as the company integrates new voice-controlled hardware.
Integrated Microphone Enables Voice Commands and Calls
The core update arrives in the form of an integrated microphone and improved speaker. This hardware allows riders to use menus, request performance data like average speed, or report route hazards without removing their hands from the handlebars. The device also mirrors connectivity features from Garmin’s smartwatch lineup, enabling users to answer incoming calls directly through the unit when paired with a smartphone.
New Routing Software Prioritizes Efficiency and Previews
Garmin has overhauled the navigation software to prioritize efficiency. A new “Free Flow Routing” feature targets paths with fewer intersections and stops, aiming to minimize deceleration. Riders can now use route previews to select their preferred path from multiple options. The device provides automated detour suggestions and real-time alerts for road closures, alongside refined tools for locating refueling stations and points of interest.
Hardware Refinement and Weight Reduction
Despite the addition of new internals, the Edge 1060 is more compact than the previous model. It measures over a centimeter shorter and has shed weight, dropping from 161 grams to 142 grams. The 3.5-inch, 480 × 800-pixel display remains, but the chassis now features relocated charging ports and additional physical buttons to reduce reliance on the touchscreen. Internally, a faster processor drives quicker map loading and instantaneous route recalculation.
USB-C Port Allows Reverse Charging for Peripherals
Battery performance stays consistent with the previous generation, offering up to 20 hours of operation in standard mode and up to 60 hours in battery-saver mode. The most significant shift in power management is the introduction of reverse charging via the USB-C port. This allows the head unit to serve as an emergency power bank for smartphones or peripheral hardware, such as Varia radar units.
Group Ride and Interface Customization
Garmin has also expanded the “Group Ride” functionality to provide more reliable features for riders traveling in packs. The interface, meanwhile, now allows for greater personalization; users can customize the layout of widgets and applications directly on the main home screen. These updates follow the release of the Edge 1050.
