Garmin has officially entered the screenless wearable market with the launch of the Garmin CIRQA, a fitness band designed for health and activity tracking without a subscription model. Priced at $199, the device tracks over 80 distinct activities and provides comprehensive wellness metrics, including heart rate, blood oxygen levels, and sleep analysis, with general availability beginning July 24.

Core Health and Fitness Tracking Capabilities

The CIRQA differentiates itself by "inconspicuous" design, omitting a traditional display to prioritize comfort and reduced digital distraction. According to Garmin, the band automatically detects various movement patterns and allows users to manually trigger activity tracking for specific workouts—such as running, walking, or yoga—via a single side-mounted button.

Beyond basic step counting, the device utilizes an onboard sensor array to monitor:

  • Heart Rate and Recovery: Provides wrist-based heart rate, Heart Rate Variability (HRV) status, and VO2 Max data to assist users in gauging training intensity and recovery needs.
  • Energy and Stress: Tracks Body Battery energy levels, stress markers, and skin temperature.
  • Sleep Analysis: Records sleep stages, respiration, and nap detection, with a dedicated sleep score available through the Garmin Connect app.
  • Women’s Health: Includes specific tracking for menstrual cycles and pregnancy, leveraging skin temperature data to improve the accuracy of ovulation and period predictions.

Design and Connectivity

The band is constructed from fabric materials and is available in seven colorways: Citron Gray, Mauve, French Gray, Dark Olive, Captain Blue, French Blue, and black. Garmin designed the device to be worn on the wrist or as an armband, depending on user preference.

While the CIRQA operates as a standalone tracker for internal metrics, it supports GPS functionality by tethering to a compatible Android or iPhone. This integration allows users to map outdoor activities like runs or long walks while utilizing their smartphone’s location services.

Subscription-Free Wellness Model

A primary feature of the CIRQA is the absence of a mandatory subscription fee for its health data platform. Susan Lyman, Garmin’s vice president of consumer sales and marketing, stated that the device is intended to help users manage health and fitness goals without ongoing costs. All data captured by the band is synced and visualized within the Garmin Connect app, which serves as the central hub for long-term health trends and performance insights.

Availability and Market Position

The Garmin CIRQA is priced at $199. While the product was announced on July 21, Garmin’s official store listing indicates that the device will be available for purchase starting July 24. By removing the screen, the company aims to appeal to users who prefer a less intrusive wearable that remains dedicated to physiological data collection rather than smartphone notifications or interactive media.
