Kylie Jenner popularized the look in December 2025 at the “Marty Supreme” premiere, where she wore a bright orange dress and positioned her hands over her chest. Photographers have similarly captured Dua Lipa, Selena Gomez, Hailey Bieber, Millie Bobby Brown, and Zendaya utilizing variations of the stance, ranging from a light graze of the fingers to a more pronounced grasp of the décolletage.
Cultural Shift from Millennial Trends
The posture marks a distinct shift from earlier generational photography habits. While millennials popularized the “teapot pose”—placing one hand firmly on the hip with the elbow extended—and early social media “duck lips,” younger internet users favor poses that appear unscripted. Lizzie Kloehn, a 25-year-old photographer and content creator, told HuffPost that the pose succeeds because it offers an intuitive solution to camera-induced awkwardness. “I think the reason it’s become so popular is because it’s just one of those poses that feels super natural, non-awkward and easy to hit when a camera is suddenly pointed at you,” Kloehn said, comparing its utility to flashing a peace sign or placing a hand on a hip. Austin, Texas resident Neriyah Perez, 22, noted that the positioning allows wearers to showcase details like jewelry or manicured nails while projecting bodily comfort.
