An investigation is underway at the Grand Théâtre de Genève after a hidden camera was discovered in a staff dressing room in 2025, according to local reporting by Léman Bleu confirmed by institution representatives. The inquiry has also raised questions about a similar past incident at the Genevan cultural venue dating back to 2014.
The individual suspected of placing the recording device in 2025 has been questioned by investigators, according to statements reported by the Swiss news agency Keystone-ATS. A spokesperson for the Grand Théâtre confirmed to Keystone-ATS that a suspect has been identified, noting that “the person involved benefits from the presumption of innocence.” The institution stated that it is collaborating actively with the public prosecutor’s office until the matter is fully resolved.
Police Searches and Investigation Scope
According to reporting by Léman Bleu, law enforcement authorities executed a search warrant at the residence of the suspect, who is identified as an employee of the City of Genève attached to its technical service department. Investigators seized electronic images during the raid. The public prosecutor’s office declined to comment on the ongoing legal procedure, and the defense attorney representing the suspect, Me Guglielmo Palumbo, has not released further details to the press.
Alongside the 2025 discovery, the institution launched an appeal for witnesses concerning a separate hidden camera incident reported in 2014. Media reports indicate the currently identified suspect may also be linked to the earlier event. The 2014 incident was not publicly disclosed at the time due to instructions from investigators, a decision that drew criticism from staff members and labor unions.
Institutional Security Changes and Support Measures
Following the discovery of the device, the Grand Théâtre implemented new security protocols to protect employees. Management introduced nominative badges, regular security checks for dressing rooms, and mandatory training sessions covering personal data protection for all foundation personnel. Dialogue channels have also been opened with labor unions and staff representatives.
As performances temporarily relocate to the Bâtiment des Forces Motrices (BFM), management is adjusting logistical arrangements. The institution announced plans to assign alternative dressing rooms to staff members affected by the investigation. Additionally, starting this season, an intimacy coordinator will support theatrical productions when required, according to the theater’s spokesperson.
