Georgia Plimmer Out of New Zealand’s ODI Series Against Zimbabwe, Bella James Steps In
Wellington, March 3, 2026 – New Zealand batter Georgia Plimmer has been ruled out of the upcoming One Day International (ODI) series against Zimbabwe due to a shoulder injury sustained during the recent T20I series. Fellow batter Bella James, who was initially called up as injury cover for Plimmer during the T20I series, will remain with the squad as her replacement for the ODI matches.
Injury Details and Replacement
Plimmer suffered the shoulder injury while training with the White Ferns during the T20I series, causing her to miss the final two matches. James was brought in as cover before the third T20I and will now continue in that role for the ODI series. New Zealand won the T20I series against Zimbabwe 3-0.
Coach Ben Sawyer’s Comments
Head Coach Ben Sawyer expressed his disappointment over Plimmer’s injury, stating, “Georgia is a key player for us at the top of the order and the energy she brings into the group is something we really value, so it’s a shame to have her miss this next series.”
Sawyer also highlighted James’s experience and suitability for the role, adding, “Bella is a great cricketer who’s played nearly 100 List-A matches in her career so far. That experience is extremely valuable, and she’ll fit straight back into the side seamlessly.”
New Faces in the Squad
Off-spinner Nensi Patel and wicketkeeper-batter Izzy Sharp have also been included in the New Zealand squad. Both players are uncapped in ODIs and could make their debuts during the series. Patel impressed in the T20I series, taking five wickets, while Sharp contributed with scores of 18 not out and 22 not out.
ODI Series Context
The three ODIs, commencing on March 5th, are part of the 2025–2029 ICC Women’s Championship cycle. New Zealand joins Sri Lanka, South Africa, Pakistan, and West Indies as teams participating in this cycle.
