Ghanaian Student Arrested Over Obscene Content Shared on Snapchat
A 23-year-old student, Nhyira Papa Kojo Egyir Hayford, has been arrested by the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team of the Ghana Police Service for allegedly publishing obscene material online, in violation of Section 280 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). The arrest stems from the circulation of intimate videos on social media.
Details of the Arrest and Investigation
The Ghana Police Service initiated the investigation following a routine cyber patrol on February 14, 2026, which uncovered the viral intimate video according to reports. The content was reportedly posted on the suspect’s public Snapchat account, identified as @biggforddd123, and featured multiple females. Investigators determined the videos were recorded between 2023 and January 26, 2026.
Hayford admitted to posting the videos on February 25, 2026, claiming they were related to a TikTok challenge known as “Anti Shakira’s.” Channel One News reports. He also confessed to recording another explicit video in 2023, which he allegedly sold to an American woman named Naya for $600 (approximately GH¢6,500 at the time).
Portia Ampofo, one of the women appearing in the videos, was invited by police to assist with the investigation. Graphic Online reports that after preliminary questioning, the suspect was handed over to the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters for further investigation.
Current Status and Police Caution
As of March 5, 2026, Hayford has been granted police enquiry bail while investigations continue. The Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team is handling the case.
The police have cautioned the public against sharing explicit or offensive materials online, emphasizing that such actions are illegal. They have pledged to ensure the internet remains a safe space for all Ghanaians. The police statement reiterated their commitment to enforcing the laws of the land in the digital space.
