Ghana Secures Four Medals at the 2026 Africa U-19 Badminton Championship in Cairo

Ghana’s junior badminton team secured four medals at the 2026 All Africa U-19 Badminton Championship in Cairo, Egypt, according to reports from the Ghana News Agency (GNA). The medal haul includes a silver medal in the women’s doubles and three bronze medals across the mixed doubles and mixed team relay events, marking a strong continental showing for the nation’s young athletes.

Women’s Doubles Final Narrows to Two Points Against Mauritius

The tournament’s standout campaign for Ghana came in the women’s doubles, where Moslena Adu and Rachael Quarcoo advanced to the final. To reach the championship match, Adu and Quarcoo defeated their Egyptian opponents 15-8, 15-9 in the semi-finals, a performance highlighted by Chale News. In the final, the Ghanaian pair faced the top-seeded duo from Mauritius. Adu and Quarcoo pushed the match to three games before losing a narrow 15-9, 9-15, 13-15 decision, coming within two points of claiming the gold medal in the decisive third game.

Mixed Events Add Three Bronze Medals to the Haul

Before the women’s doubles final, Ghana secured two bronze medals in the mixed doubles competition. The team added a third bronze medal in the mixed team relay. According to GNA reporting, the relay squad featured Adu-Mintah, Amasah, Obeng-Shang, Quarcoo, Sarpei, Sullo, and Adu. Chale News noted that this collective relay bronze reflects a team effort across multiple matches rather than an individual pairing’s result.

World Championships Campaign Begins on Monday

The 48-country World Championships mixed team relay is scheduled to begin on Monday, with Ghana expected to continue its campaign on the international stage, per GNA. The Ghana Badminton Association has rallied public support behind the team under the slogan “Rally for Ghana” as the Golden Shuttlers transition to the global tournament.
