A New Secretary for Nevada Appellate Practice
Gil Kahn, counsel at Snell & Wilmer, has been elected Secretary of the State Bar of Nevada’s Appellate Litigation Section. In his new leadership capacity, Kahn will oversee the section’s efforts to advance professional standards and educational programming for practitioners throughout the state.
Expanding Appellate Advocacy
The Appellate Litigation Section serves as a hub for refining the craft of appellate practice. Its mandate includes the dissemination of legal materials and the facilitation of discussions regarding potential improvements to court practice and the law. Beyond its educational mission, the section acts as an advisory body, addressing specific matters referred by the State Bar of Nevada Board of Governors.
A Background in Federal Litigation
Kahn brings a substantial portfolio to the role. As a member of Snell & Wilmer’s Litigation, Investigations, and Trials and Appellate Practice Groups, his work spans complex appeals before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and various state courts. His broader litigation practice includes constitutional claims, defamation, anti-SLAPP, and debt collection.
His judicial insight is rooted in his early career as a law clerk. Kahn served The Honorable Jennifer A. Dorsey and The Honorable Larry R. Hicks at the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada, as well as The Honorable Jay S. Bybee at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Deepening Ties to the Nevada Bar
Before his election to the section’s leadership, Kahn completed a three-year term as a Lawyer Representative for the U.S. District Court, District of Nevada, where he served on the Civil Rules Committee. He also helped launch the Nevada Jewish Bar Association, where he maintains a seat on the Steering Committee to foster professional connections and community engagement.
Kahn Represents Asylum Seekers at Snell & Wilmer
Kahn’s work at Snell & Wilmer—a firm established in 1938 with 17 locations across the U.S. and Mexico—balances corporate representation with a commitment to pro bono services. His pro bono practice is specifically focused on the representation of asylum seekers.
Appellate Litigation Section Provides Educational Materials for Attorneys
The Appellate Litigation Section remains open to all members of the State Bar of Nevada interested in the study and practice of appellate law. The section’s primary objective continues to be the development and dissemination of educational materials designed to enhance the skills of attorneys engaged in appellate litigation.
