German Actors Gisa Flake and Knud Riepen to Marry After Spontaneous Proposal

Berlin-based actors Gisa Flake and Knud Riepen have announced their engagement and plans to marry, following a lighthearted exchange during a trip to Riga, Latvia. The couple confirmed their upcoming nuptials to the German magazine Bunte.

A Dress and a Promise

The engagement stemmed from a playful moment although Flake was trying on a white dress in Riga. Unable to fully fasten the garment, she jokingly told Riepen, “If this dress fits me someday, I’ll marry you.” According to Flake, the dress “shockingly quickly” fit after the couple abstained from alcohol for several months during the summer. She promptly ordered her marriage certificate from Braunschweig.

Longtime Friends Turned Couple

Flake and Riepen have been friends since 2013. Flake is known for her role as a detective in the Rostock-based television series “Polizeiruf 110” and as a television presenter.

Prenuptial Agreement

The couple intends to enter into a prenuptial agreement, acknowledging the legal and financial aspects of marriage. Flake described marriage as having “something deeply bureaucratic,” encompassing both the celebratory elements and the necessary legal and tax considerations. Riepen views the agreement as a “romantic” way to establish a solid foundation and clear expectations for their future together. He will handle the paperwork, while Flake will focus on planning the wedding celebration.

Flake and Riepen recently attended the annual German Television Awards in Cologne, Germany, on September 10, 2025 according to Getty Images. Knud Riepen similarly maintains an active Instagram presence (@knud_riepen), with recent posts from Berlin, Germany and Tallinn, Latvia.
